Whisper # 2

Once he sells you (gets you to believe) one lie, the next is easily bought by you. In fact, many times it doesn't take 1,000 truths to sell the 2nd lie, just a reminder of the 1st lie that you already believe. But just in case he doesn't mess up the sell, he will teach you a lesson in pride. He will flatter you.

I was sitting in the lunch room, watching the cheerleaders gather and chat among themselves when the whisperer came and sat next to me, between me and my best friends. "You remember the Sunday School lesson from church about 'talents'?"
"Yes," I replied. "We all had to tell each other what some of our talents are."
"Yeah, wasn't that a good lesson? It made you feel so good to hear how many talents you have."
"It did make me feel really good!"
"Look at those girls. They sure are popular. Everyone knows them. They are so pretty! Aren't they gorgeous?"
"Yes, they are beautiful."
"It's probably one of their talents to be that beautiful. You're very pretty too! Don't think you're not! You just don't flaunt it like they do. They can be so immodest. You're not though! you have the modesty of an angel and you are so humble about it all! You don't need to show your body off like those girls; you are so humble! It is probably one of your talents, because you are way more humble than those girls!"
"Yeah. I guess so."
"Oh, trust me! You really are! I mean look at the group of goths over there. They try to prove to everyone that they are better because they don't care how different they look, but in reality, they are just as stuck up as the cheerleaders. You don't do that though because you are so humble. You aren't proving anything to anyone and you don't have to! You know exactly who you are! You are a child of God! You have the gospel! You have so many talents! And you don't try to show off ever, because you're so humble about it all. You will totally make it to the Celestial Kingdom and those people probably won't. It's a good thing you are so humble, because you are totally better off than them. Even if you tried sharing the gospel with them they wouldn't accept it. They would just think you are so weird for even talking to them. They are so prideful. you are so much better where you are. You're not prideful like them. You know you are their equal. They aren't better than you; you're just way more humble."
"You're so right! I am! I am way more humble than them."
I looked at my friends sitting at the table with me as I began to think to myself. "You know, they aren't even as humble as me. Sure, they are good, but I don't think they are good enough because they don't even have standards as high as I have. Not to mention, they gossip sometimes. I bet my friends don't even realize how much they have to change and repent if they want to make it to the Celestial Kingdom. It's sad. I'm so sad for them. Oh! That reminds me of a scripture I recently heard. (See I am really good, I bet they don't sit here thinking about scriptures). I am so much like Nephi! Born of goodly parents, who set high standards for me to follow and I am following them! Nephi was so much better than Laman and Lemuel! And he knew it. Remember in 1 Nephi chapter 7? Starting in verse 8 and continuing on through 15, Nephi grieves, just like I do, for his brethern. And then he says, "how is it that ye are so hard in your hearts, so blind in your minds, that ye have need that I, your younger brother, should set an example for you?" See? Nephi isn't even as humble as I am. I don't say things like that to my friends, though maybe I should...but I don't want them to think that I know I am more humble and better than them. It wouldn't be humble of me to go around correcting people. I will still be their friends though because they need me to set a good example."

He has her now. She began thinking how he wanted her to think because he flattered her until she soaked it up. Now she seeps with the same thinking all on her own. He planted seeds of pride, and they took root.
